The Serenade in Blue
The wildlife art of Nelda Smith
Nelda L. Smith was born in Pampa, Texas and grew up in Guymon, Oklahoma. Her first paintings depicted her life on the ranch in the Oklahoma panhandle. She has been a transplanted New Mexican for a relatively short time. She has studied under some remarkable artists such as Deanne Conner, Ben Konis, Daniel Greene, Albert Handel, Anna Mayer, Jon Birdsong, & Robert Bateman. While pursuing her career as an accountant, she has never laid down her brushes for very long at a time and she plans to paint with a renewed passion as she has reached a new pinacle of creativity.
She has received numerous awards for her paintings, and her works now hang in private collections in Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio, California, and New Mexico. She has strived to balance her art interests with her business adventures. This year she will be participating in several local and regional art shows and continue to display in several galleries throughout New Mexico and Texas. She is currently branching out and studying sculpting in the local foundry while learning under the guidance of D'Jean Jawrunner.
Her works include wildlife paintings of deer, antelope, and wolves. She is adept at painting horses and livestock as well as pet portraits. She has numerous paintings of wildbirds and domestic fowl. Her paintings of churches and barns grace the walls of several businesses and residences throughout the Southwest. Her still life paintings and portraits speak of her diversification in oils, acrylics, pastels, and watercolors.
Artist is available to do commissioned work.
