"I am primarily a self-taught artist, born and raised in southern California. I have been drawing since childhood, delved deeply into photography in my youth, and did pencil, pen and ink and charcoal drawings for many years. Art was set aside as I raised a family and developed my career as a marine biologist, maintaining my connection with the outdoors through hunting, fishing and camping trips throughout the western states and on travels around the world. Colored pencil drawings of our dogs led to the occasional request for a drawing by friends and rekindled an interest in furthering my art.
" A painting workshop in September of 2001 was my first introduction to paint mediums and I have settled on watercolor as my primary medium of choice. I continue to produce dog portraits but really enjoy depicting wildlife subjects and their environment as well as some western subjects. I feel that wildlife art can help to educate the viewer, and education will enhance the concern necessary to preserve our wildlife for future generations. In addition, art is to be enjoyed, and I hope that my depictions of animals are enjoyed by those who view them.
"I am a signature member of the Worldwide Nature Artists Group, a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society and the San Diego Visual Artists’ Guild. I won the People’s choice award in watercolor at the 54th Annual Death Valley Days Art show. I continue with my day job for the National Marine Fisheries Service but have been able to fit in about five shows per year the past couple of years and hope to expand that soon."
